Trailer for Captain America Winter Soldier gives us the Cap we missed from The Avengers

Marvel's CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLIDER - Teaser Poster

I enjoyed the first Captain America movie, so I wasn’t really looking forward to or lamented, the return of Captain America, but I was bummed he had such a shitty showing in The Avengers. His slow build could be a good thing, down the road, but slow doesn’t always mean careful, but they do seem to be taking their time with his storyline, but enough of this this babbling. I thoroughly enjoyed this new trailer for Captain America: Winter Soldier, not because I could name off all the new characters being introduced to this franchise cause I can’t, but because it just looked good and seemingly better than the THOR sequel and I am sick of Samuel L. always being the good guy. I think he does asshole much better.

The film stars Chris Evans, Scarlett Johanssen, Cobie Smulders, Georges St-Pierre, Frank Grillo, Hayley Atwell, Toby Jones, Emily VanCamp, Maximiliano Hernández, Robert Redford, and Samuel L. Jackson. Captain America: The Winter Soldier opens April 4, 2014.

After the cataclysmic events in New York with The Avengers, Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” finds Steve Rogers, a.k.a. Captain America, living quietly in Washington, D.C. and trying to adjust to the modern world. But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow, Captain America struggles to expose the ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow enlist the help of a new ally, the Falcon. However, they soon find themselves up against an unexpected and formidable enemy—the Winter Soldier.

Vice interviews the creators of Escape From Tomorrow

escape from tomorrow

I still haven’t seen this film yet, but it’s on my list. Having grown up in Orlando Florida, I’m always tickled shitty when cheeky directors have it in their minds to create a film that exploits the exploiters. If I had stayed in Orlando another day, instead of moving to New York, I might’ve had to do exactly what director Randy Moore did. Even if this film turns out to be a reheated piece…I applaud the effort and imagination, of this fearless cast and crew.

That being said, Vice Magazine just uploaded a video on youtube, that delves deep into how they pulled it off and all under the watchful eye of Da Mouse!

Escape from Tomorrow is written and directed by Randy Moore. The film, secretly shot at Disney World, is described as a postmodern, surreal voyage into the bowels of “family” entertainment as a middle-aged father loses his sanity during a close encounter with two teenage girls on holiday, all while trying to keep a straight face with his family after losing his job on the first day of vacation. Roy Abramsohn, Elena Schuber, Katelynn Rodriguez, Annet Mahendru, Danielle Safady and Alison Lees-Taylor star in the film which premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and arrived in limited theaters starting on October 11th

Behold the far out illustrations of Thom Tenery

Manhattan Skyline

Conceptual artist Thom Tenery is no noobie to the concept art game, he’s worked with such entertainment giants as Disney, Blizzard Entertainment and the Syfy Channel. His most notable work was the sky tower home and drones in the Kosinski/Cruise film OBLIVION (available on Blu-Ray now).

Checking out his resume, I also see that he’s worked on some exciting projects that I remember hearing about awhile back, but have either been scraped or placed on hold….The Yellow Submarine directed by Robert Zemeckis and Barbarella directed by Robert Rodriguez. Because I’ve been following the progress on these films…somewhat, it kind of breaks my heart to know we may never get to see these designs, simply because the property now belongs to Disney (The Yellow Submarine) and Universal (Barbarella).

If Thom’s art work on those films is anything like what I’m posting, I may have to put a team together to infiltrate both those studios and lift them…for the fans.

Disney announces they will release a Star Wars film every summer starting in 2015

star-wars-logo-slice

This is crazy Go NUTS! Disney announced today at Cinema Con- The National convention for theater owners in Las Vegas, that starting in 2015 they will release a Star Wars film every summer.

According to Collider.com

The studio will alternate every other year with an “Episode” film and a standalone film.

I really can’t speculate as to what films or character arcs they plan to focus on, but this news is huge, especially for us that are heavily into the Timothy Zahn stories.  We may get to see Heir To The Empire. As reported by Collider.com earlier this year…

plot details on the new trilogy are mum, Disney confirmed that it was developing standalone Star Wars films back in February.  Though the studio has yet to reveal which characters those films would focus on, previous reports claim that films focusing on Yoda, Boba Fett, and a young Han Solo are in the works.

So while Star Wars Episode VII directed by J.J. Abrams is in the works, rest assured they are also working on these side stories and scouting for potential actors to play the parts. In addition to this news we’ve also learned that the writers for Star Wars VII Lawrence Kasdan (The Empire Strikes Back) and Simon Kinberg (X-Men: First Class) are slated to begin work on the stand alone films as well. From a franchising stand point it don’t get any better than news like this. No more searching for your obscure characters on Ebay, no sir…with this many films, your unsung heroes may get to see the light of day.

By the way author, Timothy Zahn (Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising) will be in attendance at this years Phoenix Comic Con which runs May 23-26 2013 and yes, you can believe MITNG will be talking to him to get the scoop on these latest developments.

Second trailer for Iron Man 3 arrives…with friends!

iron man

I did a little reading on the Mandarin (Iron Man‘s arch nemesis), after watching the first trailer for Iron Man 3. What I gathered is he’s an idealist, kind of like Che Guevera, but a million times smarter. He is the Tony Stark of Indochina, but without his money and once again Tony’s father projects have had an indelible impact on his childhood. The part of The Mandarin is being played bycomics_the_mandarin, none other than, the super talented Ben Kingsley, you can hear his voice throughout this trailer actually. It’s an all too familiar formula to have the villain giving these poignant monologues for film trailers nowadays. The idea is to make the audience feel vulnerable and selfish. I promise this won’t be a post about the corruptible power of money, but it is funny how two blockbusting villains have been these so called modern day Robin Hoods, I speak of Bane (from The Dark Knight Rises) and The Mandarin of course. I don’t know where I was going with that, I just thought I would share this bit of Hollywood sociology. So yes, the trailer, it features some outstanding special effects along with a host of “Iron Man-ish” friends who show up at the end. I think they are those soldiers you see in the room at one point in the trailer, you tell me. It should be a fun ride and one I think, in 3D, should blow a few minds. Enjoy.

Iron Man 3 is directed by Jon Favreau and stars Robert Downey Jr.,Don Cheadle,Guy Pierce, Ben Kingsley and Gwyneth Paltrow (who swears this is the last one…whatever!). Iron Man releases in theaters on May 3, 2013.
